According to an influential reporter, Apple is still working on an all-singing, all-dancing HomePod speaker with Apple TV and a built-in FaceTime camera.
In his weekly Power On newsletter, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman said that the product would be at the Core of Apple’s HomePod strategy in the coming years.

The product has been rumoured in the past, particularly by Gurman, so it’s encouraging to hear it’s still on the table. In response to a reader’s question, Gurman stated that while a replacement for the original HomePod is unlikely, Apple still has a lot planned for the HomePod line.
“I firmly believe a new HomePod will be released — specifically, a gadget that includes a HomePod, Apple TV, and FaceTime camera,” he tweeted. I don’t believe a large stand-alone HomePod is still in the works, but a new HomePod small could be on the way. The hybrid product will most likely be at the heart of Apple’s strategy, with HomePod minis strewn about the house.”
Gurman doesn’t say when this device will be released, but a prior report from 2021 indicated it was still in the early phases of development. The makeup of any potential device would be intriguing. The camera throws a wrench into the equation.
Because the HomePod or Apple TV would have to be linked to a television, it would have to be set at an appropriate height for video calling, or the camera would be movable.
Now that the HomePod small is two years old, it’s time for Apple to release something fresh in that category. Perhaps a new HomePod mini with Dolby Atmos support this year, followed by the combination device in 2023?
