The Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC supports the 200-megapixel ISOCELL HP3 camera sensor. Even Wi-Fi 7 is supported. The Oppo Find X smartphone will find the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC.
At the Snapdragon Summit 2022, Qualcomm introduced its new Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset. The new chipset, which replaces the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and Gen 1+ SoCs, will “revolutionize the landscape of flagship smartphones in 2023,” according to the manufacturer because it provides 4.35X better AI capabilities, 40% more power efficiency, and 25% faster GPU capabilities than the Snapdragon Gen 1 chipset.
The business declared at the Summit 2022 that the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC would be used on smartphones made by OEMs like Asus ROG, Honor, iQoo, Motorola, Nubia, OnePlus, Oppo, RedMagic, Redmi, Sharp, Sony, Vivo, Xiaomi, and ZTE. The names of these new phones have yet to be finalized, but they are anticipated to go on sale by the end of 2022.
The new chipset from Qualcomm is officially named the SM8550-AB and is made with a 4nm process. Additionally, it is intended to enhance connectivity and AI options. The organization claims in a blog post that its improved Hexagon engine enables quicker natural language processing with multilingual translation and cutting-edge AI camera functions.
The Qualcomm FastConnect 7800 networking system, which supports Wi-Fi 7 for the lowest latency and fast internet, is a feature of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC‘s connectivity (5.8Gbps). Once Wi-Fi 7 capable routers are more widely available in homes, the technology will keep the device future-ready.
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 supports 48kHz lossless music streaming and has a latency of 48ms for media usage. The latter will significantly aid players in interacting with one another in-game. Additionally, it has a Snapdragon X70 5G Modem-RF System that can deliver peak downlink rates of 10 Gbps and peak uplink speeds of 3.5 Gbps thanks to Qualcomm’s 5G AI processor (similar to its predecessor).
To provide support for its new 200-megapixel ISOCELL HP3 camera sensor, Qualcomm is collaborating with Samsung. According to rumors, the new sensor will first appear on the Galaxy S23 Ultra, while devices like the Motorola Edge 30 Ultra use an ISOCELL HP1 sensor. The new sensor will provide more clarity even when users capture a screenshot of a zoomed-in area. This is the first Snapdragon SoC to feature an AV1 codec that supports video playback at up to 8K HDR frame rates.
Support for LPDDR5x RAM, UFS 4.0 storage, QHD+ @ 144Hz, and other essential features are also included. A prime core running at 3.2GHz, four performance cores reaching 2.8GHz, and three efficiency cores reaching 2.0GHz make up the octa-core processor. Oppo has revealed that the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC would be used in its next Oppo Find X handset.
