According to rumors, Apple is developing its own smart display to compete with products like the Google Nest Hub and the Amazon Echo Show.
Apple is reportedly preparing a slew of new smart home products to compete with Google and Amazon in the smart home market, according to the dependable Apple analyst Mark Gurman of Bloomberg.
With its updated second-generation HomePod, the company has lately returned to the smart speaker format, but its goals reportedly go beyond that.
A “low-end iPad that can control things like thermostats and lights, show video, even manage FaceTime calls” would be the first new product in this Apple smart home series, claims Gurman. Alternatively put, a smart display.
This less expensive iPad would have magnets built in to allow attachment on a stand or other surface. Apple appears to have been considering a larger smart display gadget as well.
Given that they seem to be in the early stages of production, don’t anticipate hearing an official announcement about these Apple smart displays anytime soon.
The source also states that a new Apple TV, which will succeed the Apple TV (2022) and have (unsurprisingly) a faster processor, is in the works for release the following year. However, don’t anticipate it to be able to support 8k video.
Do you recall the Apple TV rumors? Do you mean the rumor that Apple would produce an actual, physical television set instead of just an Apple TV box? Despite obstacles, that project isn’t wholly dead.
