See when Apple will release the last and final model of iPod

The iPod is one of the most iconic devices of the twenty-first century, and it is widely regarded as the product that propelled Apple to its current market dominance. However, it could be argued that the era of the standalone mp3 player is over.

Apple announced on Tuesday that the seventh-generation iPod touch, which will be released in 2019, will be the final iPod model. The company will continue to sell the device while supplies last, implying that production has ceased. The reason is apparent: users can find the functionality of the iPod in any of Apple’s products that came after it.

Users today do not consider MP3 players to be hardware. Instead, it is more akin to software that can be run on various portable devices. When it came to storage space, iPods initially outperformed the iPhone. This advantage, however, eventually vanished. The iPod Touch, the final iteration of the iPod, is essentially an iPhone without cellular capability.

While Apple still wants users to listen to music with the iPhone, Apple Watch, and AirPods, the company also claims that its other products are better for listening to music at home. The iPad is more powerful, while the HomePod is less expensive.

Apple released the first iPod in October 2001, and while it was not the first portable MP3 player, it did popularise them. The iPod Nano, iPod Shuffle, and iPod Touch have been redesigned over their lifetime.
