ProMotion and Always-On displays are two essential display characteristics that Apple will exclude from the next iPhone 15.
The display of Apple’s upcoming popular smartphone update, the iPhone 15, won’t be upgraded with LTPO screen panel technology, according to a South Korean tipster on the Naver blog. Without ProMotion and an Always-On display, that is.
Since adding ProMotion as a standard to its smartphone range a few years back, Apple has kept the function exclusive to Pro models. The first Apple phone to support a 120Hz refresh rate was the iPhone 13 Pro.
The new Always-On display feature, which kept important data visible while the phone was in Sleep mode, was added to the iPhone 14 Pro and the ProMotion function, exclusive to Pro models.
These features have been a part of flagship Android phones for years, as users of Android devices are aware. They have long since found their way to more reasonably priced Android phones, so it is aggravating that Apple is reluctant to extend the technology to its still incredibly costly non-Pro iPhone range.
Besides Apple, no one else considers either feature to be “Pro,” yet this appears to be the case for the foreseeable future. You must choose between an iPhone 15 Pro or an iPhone 15 Ultra if you want a 120Hz Apple phone by the end of 2023.
This is not the first time that it has been proposed. Remarks were made by display analyst Ross Young in September, who asserted that despite the iPhone 15 adopting the Dynamic Island of the iPhone 14 Pro, it will still not feature an LTPO panel because of supply chain constraints.
